Pella Certified Contractor

What a Pella Certified Contractor brings to your project

Pella builds the window. How well it performs for the next few decades depends on how it goes into the opening. Pella’s own warranty can be voided by an installation that ignores Pella’s instructions, which is why Pella trains and vets the contractors it certifies.

To hold Pella Certified Contractor status, a remodeling company completes Pella’s annual certification course and local installation training, carries insurance and local licensing, passes background checks, and installs a minimum number of Pella jobs. Royal Craft was one of the first companies in the Chicago area certified by Pella, and homeowners have come to us on Pella’s own recommendation.

Bill or Mauricio visits your home, measures every opening, and walks you through the Pella lines that fit the house and the budget. Our crew installs to Pella’s specifications, and we back the work with our 10-year workmanship warranty.

About the manufacturer

Pella at a glance

Pella has made windows in Pella, Iowa, for a century, and the Kuyper family still owns the company. A few facts worth knowing before you choose a brand.

1925

Founded on a better screen

Pete and Lucille Kuyper bought the Rolscreen Company, maker of a window screen that rolls up like a shade, and moved it to Pella, Iowa, in 1926.

1966

Blinds between the glass

Pella introduced Slimshade, which it describes as the first window with blinds sealed between the panes. Its first double-hung that tilts to clean from inside came in 1964.

20

Manufacturing locations

Pella reports 20 manufacturing locations and more than 10,000 team members, with headquarters still in Pella, Iowa.

150+

Product and design patents

From removable wood grilles (1958) to Hidden Screen (2022), Pella holds more than 150 product and design patents.

In J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Windows and Patio Doors Satisfaction Study, Pella ranked highest in customer satisfaction among window and patio door retailers. Pella has also been named an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year multiple times, including Sustained Excellence awards.

Windows

Pella's replacement window lines

Pella sorts its windows by frame material. These four lines cover most replacement projects in the western suburbs, and each one is also made as a patio door so doors and windows can match.

Wood

Lifestyle Series

Wood inside, aluminum cladding outside. The only Pella windows offered with blinds or shades sealed between the panes, with glass from dual-pane up to AdvancedComfort triple-pane.

Styles: casement, awning, double-hung, picture, bay and bow.

Fiberglass

Impervia

Pella’s Duracast fiberglass with a powder-coat finish, which Pella tests from -40°F to 180°F. Dual- or triple-pane glass with argon.

Styles: awning, casement, double-hung, single-hung, picture, sliding and bay.

Vinyl

250 Series

Pella’s main vinyl line, with optional triple-pane glass and Pella’s Hidden Screen on double-hung, single-hung and sliding windows.

Styles: awning, casement, double-hung, single-hung, picture, sliding, bifold, bay and bow.

Vinyl

Encompass by Pella

Pella’s most budget-friendly line, for straightforward replacements where vinyl makes sense.

Styles: picture, sliding, single-hung and double-hung.

Pella Reserve, the top wood line, and the new aluminum Vista Series are sold through select Pella dealers and showrooms. If you have your heart set on one of them, ask at your estimate and we will tell you whether we can supply it. For the service itself, see window installation and replacement.

Doors

Pella doors for the front entry and the patio

We install Pella entry, patio and storm doors alongside our Albany and ProVia lines. Full details on our door installation page.

Entry doors

Fiberglass in Mahogany, Oak, Fir and Smooth finishes, steel, and wood or aluminum-clad wood. Fiberglass and steel doors come in 33 colors, with glass or solid panels.

Sliding patio doors

Made in Lifestyle Series, Impervia, 250 Series and Encompass, so a new slider can match the windows around it. Tempered glass is standard on Pella patio doors.

Hinged, multi-slide and bifold

Hinged French-style patio doors for a traditional look, plus multi-slide and bifold doors for wide openings, depending on the line.

Storm doors

Pella Select Fullview and Rolscreen storm doors with aluminum frames. The Rolscreen screen rolls out of sight when you do not need it.

Glass and options

Glass and options worth asking about

On a Chicago-area home, the glass package matters as much as the frame. These are the Pella options we talk through most at estimates.

AdvancedComfort Low-E

The Low-E coating Pella recommends for the northern U.S. Pella rates it at 85% UV blocked on dual-pane glass and 87% on triple-pane.

Triple-pane glass

A third pane adds insulation for cold winters. Available on select lines, including Lifestyle Series, Impervia and 250 Series.

Between-the-glass blinds and shades

Cordless blinds or shades sealed between the panes, so they never collect dust. On Pella windows they are exclusive to Lifestyle Series.

Sound and specialty glass

Sound-control glass with mixed glass thicknesses, obscure glass for bathrooms, tempered and laminated glass, and switchable privacy glass.

Choosing a line

Choosing Pella windows for a Chicago-area home

Downers Grove and the rest of DuPage and Cook counties sit in IECC climate zone 5A and in ENERGY STAR’s Northern zone. Under ENERGY STAR Version 7.0, a window qualifies in the Northern zone at a U-factor of 0.22 or lower, with a few alternatives that allow a slightly higher U-factor when the glass lets in more solar heat. A lower U-factor means less heat lost through the glass in January.

Every line below can be ordered with glass built for this climate. The bigger choices are frame material, the look inside the room, and budget. At the estimate we show you the NFRC ratings for the exact unit and glass package you are considering.

Warranty

Two warranties cover a Royal Craft Pella installation

Pella's product warranty

Most current Pella windows and doors carry a limited lifetime warranty for the original owner of an owner-occupied home, with shorter terms on some parts, such as 10 years on hardware and screens for wood products. Pella covers labor on product defects for 2 years.

If you sell the home, the lifetime coverage becomes a 10-year limited warranty counted from the original sale date. On Pella vinyl and fiberglass windows, the 20-year glass coverage transfers to the next owner.

Our 10-year workmanship warranty

Royal Craft backs the installation itself for 10 years. Pella’s showroom-only programs, the Pella Care Guarantee and the Pella Sales Branch installation agreement, apply only to windows bought from a Pella showroom. On our jobs, our own workmanship warranty covers the install.

Terms vary by product line and date of sale. Read the warranty for your exact product on Pella’s warranty page.

Royal Craft installed a Pella triple slider window for us and did a great job. They were recommended by Pella after I had had a bad experience with my own contractor on a similar slider months before.

FAQ

Pella windows and doors: common questions

What is a Pella Certified Contractor?

A remodeling company that Pella has trained, vetted and certified to sell and install its products. Pella requires certified contractors to complete an annual certification course and local installation training, carry insurance and local licensing, pass background checks, and complete a minimum number of Pella jobs. Royal Craft was one of the first companies in the Chicago area to earn it. You can confirm any contractor with Pella's Find a Contractor tool.

Is buying Pella from Royal Craft different from buying at a Pella showroom?

The windows and doors are the same, and so is Pella's product warranty. The difference is who installs and stands behind the installation. Pella's Sales Branch installation agreement and the Pella Care Guarantee apply only to showroom sales. On our jobs, Royal Craft's 10-year workmanship warranty covers the installation, and Bill or Mauricio is your contact from the estimate to the final walkthrough.

How much do Pella windows cost?

Pella's own 2026 cost guide puts typical installed prices at about $800 to $1,600 per window for vinyl and $1,100 to $2,200 or more for fiberglass and wood. Those are Pella's national averages. Your price depends on the line, the size and style, the glass package and the condition of each opening. We give you a written quote after measuring, and the estimate is free.

Are Pella windows wood, vinyl or fiberglass?

All three, plus aluminum. Pella's wood lines are Pella Reserve and Lifestyle Series, its fiberglass line is Impervia, its vinyl lines include 250 Series and Encompass by Pella, and the new Vista Series is aluminum.

Does the Pella warranty transfer if I sell my house?

Partly. Pella's limited lifetime coverage is for the original owner who lives in the home. When the home is sold, it becomes a 10-year limited warranty counted from the original sale date. The 20-year glass coverage on Pella vinyl and fiberglass windows transfers to the next owner. Keep the paid invoice and warranty paperwork with your house records.

Which Pella glass is best for the Chicago area?

Pella recommends its AdvancedComfort Low-E glass for the northern U.S., and the Chicago area is in ENERGY STAR's Northern zone. Triple-pane glass adds more insulation on the lines that offer it. The best package also depends on which way each window faces and how much winter sun you want, so we look at each opening during the estimate.

Can I get a federal tax credit for new Pella windows in 2026?

Not under the 25C Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit. According to the IRS, that credit does not apply to windows, doors or skylights placed in service after December 31, 2025. Some older articles online still describe it. Ask your tax professional about your situation. (Checked October 2026.)

Do you install Pella patio doors and storm doors too?

Yes. We install Pella entry doors, sliding and hinged patio doors, and Pella storm doors, along with our Albany and ProVia door lines. See our door installation page for more.
